After a varied start to his working life, Aran came to the helping profession later in life, going back to university in his late twenties after discovering that he wanted to spend the rest of his life working with the community and taking the fight directly to the problems that plague modern Western society; depression, loneliness, addictions etc.
Aran holds a professional registration with the ACA and continues to study psychology at a post-graduate level. Aran has been working with NDIS participants for the last few years, helping them to manage their everyday lives, cope with difficult emotions and social situations, and make progress towards their life goals.
His interests are depression, anxiety, and addictions. He is motivated by the unacceptable statistics concerning mental health issues and suicide rates in Australia. Other than conventional therapeutic interventions, Aran is interested in the role of nature and the great outdoors and he is the driving force behind Pathfinder’s outdoor programs.
Further to this, in his own life, Aran has noted the profound protective effects that a healthy routine and goal-striving behaviour can have on one’s emotional state. This is underpinned by a sense of meaning in life, leading to a purposeful direction. This is encapsulated perfectly by the Nietzsche quote: “he who has a why to live for can bear almost any how”. Therefore Aran aims to not only help clients understand and find a way to overcome their problems, but go beyond with the tools of healthy routine, meaningful purpose, and a connection to nature, to achieve their dreams.
