Please reach us at admin@pathfinderperth.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We do not currently have any counsellors that specialise in working with children. Therefore in the interest of maintaining a quality service, we only see individuals over the age of 18.
Factors that enhance therapy are a good relationship with your counsellor, a solid agreement on the issues and ways to resolve them, and having faith that counselling will help. Therefore, to get the most out of your session, we suggest that clients approach each session with an openness and respect for the space, process and counsellor. It may also be beneficial to book at a time where you will have the opportunity to reflect and process after the session. As with many things in life, your benefits may be equal to the effort you put in, therefore we recommend that you take the time to complete tasks and reflections that enhance the process in your own time.
Please get in touch via email at admin@pathfinderperth.com at your earliest convenience and we will be able to assist with cancellations and rebooking.
Please note that we are unable to reschedule bookings with less than 48hrs notice.
As long as you let us know at least 48 hours before the session time then there is no fee. Sessions cancelled less than 48 hours prior or no-shows forfeit the deposit.
No, anyone can see a counsellor, a referral or mental health care plan is not needed.
All information is confidential between yourself and the therapist. However, under certain circumstances, counsellors are required to share relevant information with authorities, such as:
- When a solicitor or court of law requires us to send them your counselling notes.
- If you disclose that you intend to harm yourself or others.
- If there is suspected child abuse, neglect, or harm.
This topic is covered in the first session and you will have the opportunity to ask more questions.
Pathfinder currently only caters to individuals although we can help with relationship issues. Joondalup has some excellent options for couples counselling such as Align Relationship Counselling (ARC).
Some private health insurers provide rebates for counselling, but this depends upon the insurer and the level of cover. Your insurer will be able to advise whether Pathfinders’ services are covered.
Sorry, no. Counselling is currently not covered by Medicare.
There are many factors which determine the duration of service, so it can be difficult to say. Some people simply need to talk and gain a lasting benefit from having a one-off safe space, and others may require an extended course of therapy. We will collaborate on this plan together in the first session.
We understand that things don’t always go to plan, don’t stress! We will make the most of your remaining session time when you arrive and where possible, we will try to extend your hour. However, please be aware that other clients may have a booking following yours, so this may often not be possible.
The counselling approach can be flexible as it assists less with the problem itself and more with your appraisal and response to it. Some of the most common reasons that people seek counselling are:
- Anxiety and stress
- Low mood
- Grief, loss, and trauma
- Self-esteem issues
- Relationship issues
- Emotional regulation and coping skills
- Self-development
- Addictions
When we are experiencing distress, it can be incredibly isolating and daunting. Sometimes one can feel ashamed of their feelings and may keep things bottled up. At the heart of the recovery process is the safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Counsellors are a non-judgemental member of your team trained to help you discover your own unique path to thriving.
All counsellors and psychologists in Australia are required to meet regularly with more senior members of their profession to discuss their work. Supervision aims to enhance the quality of services provided to clients by allowing professionals to aid one another and provide accountability. Although general and situational details may be discussed, the identity of individual clients is not disclosed.
Telehealth can be more effective when both parties can see each other although we understand if you are not willing to connect via video. We use Zoom for telehealth appointments so you will need a device (desktop, laptop, mobile device), reliable internet connection, and Zoom/browser software. You will also need to find a quiet, private space.
Virtual reality sessions are our newest addition. This new technology comes with many advantages, but also a higher barrier to entry. Participants will need a private and safe space, internet connection and a Meta Quest device with Meta Horizons Workrooms installed.
We are scheduled to open a calendar of group events on the website in June of 2025.
Nature events are generally scheduled for the winter. We are scheduled to open a calendar of group events on the website in June of 2025.
